SHORT TERM COURSE ON 'NBA ACCREDITATION FOR QUALITY ASSURANCE'
CSE Department of Chandigarh Engineering College organized a short term course on “NBA Accreditation for Quality Assurance” from 4th to 8th February, 2019.
The session was inaugurated through video conferencing by Dr. AK Nassa in which he threw light on the NBA accreditation. During his session, he interacted with various remote centres live. In the first session, Prof. B.S. Pablo discussed the Norms and Standards of Engineering Programmes
Prof. R.K. Wats, in his session explained about the Institutional Accreditation- Concept & Background. He specified the defined criteria and also mentioned the scoring grades along with tier 1 and tier 2.
In the session by Prof S.S Pattnaik, he explained the terms Vision, Mission, PEO, Goal, Objectives in brief then he elaborated a clear cut difference between these terms. He also explained, in brief, the Outcome Based Curriculum- Concept & Design (Criteria-II)
Dr. Shimi S.L discussed the Writing Programme Outcomes, Course Outcomes & their Mapping (Criteria III) There was a practical session of SAR filling (Criteria-I, II, III) by Prof. R.K. Wats.
Dr. Sukhwinder Singh discussed keeping the result record from sem1 to sem 8 and document record of placement, post-graduation, and entrepreneurship based on norms.
Prof. S.S. Banwait explained the (Criteria VI & X) that is related to Facilities & Technical Support; Continuous Improvement; First year Academics; Student Support System; Governance and Institution Support & Financial Resources.
Prof. Lini Mathew discussed Course files, evaluation schemes, the correlation between PEO and mission, Program Outcomes, Process for defining POs, Mapping of courses with POs and PEOs, academic performance index, success rate, admission intake in the programme year wise, academic performance, faculty details, and student achievements.
On the concluding day, Prof. R.K. Wats discussed how to prepare the COs and also gave the assignment to remote centres for preparing the same followed by a valedictory session.
International Bus IT week organized by CSE Department
Department of CSE, CEC organized International Bus IT week from 4th February to 8th February, 2019. 15 students came from Belgium Howest University, Ephec, and UCLL. Our 22 Students were involved with them for development on Project on various technologies like PHP, Machine Learning, OOPS Concepts, Open CV, and on Django. Teams were made for 7 projects where 4-5 members were involved in each team in a combination of Indian and International Students. The main objective of Bus IT week was to provide technical skills knowledge on above-mentioned technologies.
This Project week was held in CEC, CSE (IBM LAB) where a total of 37 students were involved in projects.
Mr. Siegfried Derdeyn, Mr. Bart Soete and Mr. Joachim Francois from Belgium, Howest University College also came with the 15 students and shared their knowledge with our students on IOT concepts.
CSE Department organized Seminar on IOT on 06th February 2019
Department of CSE, CEC organized Seminar on IOT on 06th February 2019 from 10:45 A.M to 01:00 pm in the seminar hall. There were more than 100 students who attended the discussion with full enthusiasm. Mr. Siegfried Derdeyn, Mr. Bart Soete and Mr. Joachim Francois from Belgium, Howest University College told about the concepts of an Internet of Things and how it can be used in today’s scenario for operating Components by internet. He also told about MQTT in IOT and gave knowledge about the Python code development.
CSE Department organized Seminar on Digital Marketing
Department of CSE, CEC organized a Seminar on Digital Marketing on 05th February, 2019. The seminar was held from 01:50 A.M to 04:35 PM. in the Class rooms only. There were more than 150 students who attended the discussion with full enthusiasm.
Mr.Tarun Garg from CEC Landran told about his own start-up with company Youthbaba.
He spoke about digital marketing and provided some ideas about how to earn from home by creating own start-ups and websites. He also discussed the various platforms where students can submit new ideas of digital marketing.
Phoenix Club of CSE Department organized Techloons Event
Phoenix Club of CSE Department organized Techloons Event on 8th February, 2019. 19 students participated in the event. The motive of the event was to scratch out the technical approach of the participants by showcasing their technical and creative ideas.
The event was organised to check the capabilities of the participants in the field of technology and creativity along with their communication skills. The entire event was divided into two rounds stating, first round as Technical object advertisement in a two minutes video clip in which students were allowed to advertise bilingually. Many students came up with creative ideas which enhanced their technical knowledge. Second round continued with a group discussion on a technical topic. Participants were able to put valuable points but at some point they were beating around the bush. The results were announced and the winners were awarded.
CSE Department organized Workshop on Quality Assurance
Department of CSE, CEC organized Workshop on Quality Assurance on 01 February 2019 from 10:00 am to 04:00 pm. in the seminar hall. There were more than 60 students who attended the discussion with full enthusiasm. Mr. Amit Dewan and Mr. Himanshu Sharma from QA Cult, Panchkula told about the concepts of Software Engineering, its usage and how software can be tested on tool Selenium.
The workshop was conducted in two sessions. In the first session, Mr.Amit Dewan told about the eclipse in Software Engineering, how to design test cases in Software Engineering and how to test cases on web platform. In the Second Session, Mr.Himanshu Sharma told about the testing of app box.com with the help of selenium tool.
Dr.Sumit Goyal’s interaction with QA Cult helped us to organize this quality workshop. The students got to know more about the testing techniques and its upcoming challenges. Everyone was interested to create their test cases for testing.
Training cum Internship Program organized by Experts Hub
The students of CSE Department 4th semester participated in the Training cum Internship Program organized by Experts Hub at Gateway Institutions from 21st January 2019 to 28th January 2019. The program was regarding the Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence using Python. Around 80 students from different states participated in the event. 13 students from Chandigarh Engineering College participated in the program. The students were divided into 8 teams of 10 students each in which at most 4 students of the same college were allowed. All the teams were assigned with different projects that they had to submit at the end of the program i.e. on 28th January 2019. Both the teams lead by the leaders from CEC bagged the WINNER & RUNNER UP position in the project display competition. There was also a BEST INTERN AWARD that was bagged by APOORV NEGI of CEC.
CSE Department organized Workshop on Entrepreneurship Awareness
Department of CSE, CEC organized Workshop on Entrepreneurship awareness on 09th and 10th January 2019. It is the right time for us to explore Entrepreneurship to our advantage and establish ourselves. Youth can use this not only to show case their passion but also to make a career in it, with just their passion or talent. The event was held from 10:00 A.M to 01:00 pm in the seminar hall. There were more than 75 students who attended the discussion with full enthusiasm.
On the very first day of the workshop, Mr. Jagjot Singh Wadali from CDAC Mohali told about the concepts of Block chain, its usage in networking for the purpose of security. Mr. Balbir is in the profession of Entrepreneurship Development, Personality Development & Skill Development since March, 1985.
Sh. Chetan Manchanda was the speaker on the second day. He is currently working as Principal Engineer in Software Technology Division in Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC), Mohali. He told about the concepts of intellectual property in Entrepreneurship. Next speaker was Mr. Rajeev Sikka, the Founder and CEO of Prologic Technologies. With over 15 years of experience, he is a technology enthusiast with passion to create bespoke Telemedicine and WebRTC solutions for Web and Mobile. Dr. Yash Pal Taneja is working as an Assistant Professor of Accounts and Finance, Goswami Ganesh Dutta S.D College, Sector 32 C, Chandigarh who told about the Designing and Thinking in Entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship awareness camp gives an opportunity to build/create the career as an entrepreneur, where one can put his/her own startup. There was a discussion with the students on various different aspects like adapting to the new world of Entrepreneurship and about the internship and community manager program for students training.
Head of CSE Department Dr. Manish Mahajan appreciated the efforts done by the faculty coordinators and the student coordinators. He concluded the Talk by presenting a Vote of Thanks.
CSE Department organized an Industrial Visit to Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Mohali
The department of Computer Science & Engineering, Chandigarh Engineering College organized an Industrial visit to Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Mohali on 11th January, 2019 with an objective to provide a real time exposure in an industrial life to the 2nd year students. The Visit started with an Introductory Session by the company’s personnel who introduce the company and then session was continued by the Technical Head.
“Center for Electronics Design & Technology of India (CEDTI)” was setup in May 1989 with the mission to train manpower in electronic design & technology by offering a variety of training programmes in diverse aspects of electronics design, product development, production technology, maintenance engineering, information technology and quality control, etc. In December 2002, CEDTI Mohali merged with C-DAC with a primary mandate to promote highend R&D along with education and training.The centre is engaged in design and deployment of world class IT and electronics solutions in the following domains: Health Informatics, Multilingual Technologies, Professional Electronics, Software Technologies, Cyber Forensics and Security, Multimedia Technologies. Centre continues to play a leading role in human resource development and training in Information Technology (IT) sector in the northern region.
Ms. Dapinder Kaur, Mr. Ishdeep and Ms. Ramneet Kaur teaching faculty of CSE department accompanied students in this industrial visit. In total 60 students of B.Tech(CSE) 2nd year along with these three faculty members joined this industrial visit.
Phoenix Club of CSE Department organised IDEAGram
Department of CSE, CEC organised IDEAGram on 21st January 2019. It was the right time for the students of all technical departments to have a sound knowledge and a creative mind for bringing up new ideas for start-up in technology and simultaneously increase their communication skills. It provided a platform to present the ideas. It not only boosted self-confidence but also removed the hesitation of presenting oneself.
The event was held from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM and there were 17 teams who attended and participated with full enthusiasm.
Participants were to speak for at 5 minutes using the power point presentation. Participants were free to speak on any valid technical idea irrespective of any particular agenda or topic. The event was perfectly coordinated by Phoenix club coordinators.
Different ideas were presented by the students that were unique and different in their own ways. Some of the ideas are already in implementation and some had a greater scope for future advancements.
Industrial Visit to CS Soft Solution Pvt. Ltd., Mohali
The department of Computer Science & Engineering, CEC organized an Industrial visit to CS Soft Solution Pvt. Ltd. on 23rd January, 2019 for 2nd year students. CS Soft Solutions Pvt. Ltd is a growing IT Solutions firm and website development company with one simple objective – to provide the clients with state-of-the-art online services so that they can focus on their core competencies and achieve success.
The visit was organized with the prior permission and guidance of Director Principal Dr.Rajdeep Singh and HOD of CSE Department Dr.ManishMahajan.
Ms. Dapinder Kaur, Mr. Gurbaj Singh, Mr. Harpreet Singh & Mr. Harmeet Singh teaching faculty of CSE department accompanied students in this industrial visit. In total 100 students of B.Tech(CSE) 2ndyear along with four faculty members joined this industrial visit.
The visit included an Introductory Session by a company personnel and then the session was continued by HR head and Technical Heads. HR head introduced the students about the current requirements of the various companies and also about the job opportunities after B Tech. The Technical Heads told the students about the new Mobo Technology Trends in the market and also about the upcoming projects.
CSE Department organised Expert Lecture on Operating System
CSE Department organised an Expert Lecture on Operating system on 22 January 2019. The talk was held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and there were more than 70 students who attended and participated with full enthusiasm.
In order to offer the students latest insights into the emerging technologies of Operating system and advancements, CSE department regularly arrange expert talks by renowned experts. These expert talks help the students gain strong foothold in their respective discipline and help them stand out among the rest. This expert lecture was conducted for 2nd year students so that they would be able to gain knowledge about operating system. The aim of this expert lecture was to make students understand how operating system concepts really work in practice.
Phoenix club of CSE Department organized ZABAVA
Phoenix club of CSE Department organized ZABAVA event for B.Tech. 3rd & 5th Semester students on 04th October, 2018. It was a one-day event which ensured overall exposure of students from technical to non technical and cultural events.

Phoenix Club organized Tech Declamation
Department of CSE organised Tech Declamation on 16 January 2019. It was right time for all students from all technical departments to have a sound knowledge of current advancements in technology and simultaneously increase their confidence and communication skills through giving them a proper stage. The event was held on 16 January 2019 from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM and there were 18 participants who attended and participated with full enthusiasm. It was perfectly coordinated by the coordinators of Phoenix club and the result was totally unbiased and was done by experienced judges.
Following topics were chosen after discussion with the experienced panel:

The motive of this event was to make the students aware of the current scenario and also to prepare them for future potential interview questions and decreasing the hesitation of students to speak on topics that are advanced and also that are in high demand.
CSE Department organized Orator’s Crux Event
The Phoenix club of Department of Computer Science at Chandigarh Engineering College organized an event “ORATOR’S CRUX” on 12th September, 2018. The event was organized in the Seminar Hall of Block 3 from 9:30am to 4:30pm. The faculty coordinators were Ms.Lofty Sahi and Ms.Sapna Saini and the student coordinators were Daksh Kohli and Bhumika Vimani from CSE department. The event was conducted in three rounds. Round 1- was an extempore round. Students were given a topic “fortune wheel” in which were to speak for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Round 2- was of group discussion and round 3 was a debate round. All the participants put forth their views and arguments skillfully and convincingly. Unnanti Bindal was adjudged first, Ayushi Panchal second and Babbal Pratap Singh third. The organizers believed that such types of events help in developing essential skills of public speaking, improves the communication skills and also go a long way to boost confidence of students to face the audience comfortably.
CSE Department organized Industrial Visit to NIELIT
CSE Department, CEC organized Industrial visit to National Institute of Electronics and Information technology (NIELIT), C-134, Phase-8, Industrial Area, Mohali on 23rdAugust2018 for B.Tech CSE 3rd Semester students of GH group. A team of 50 students along with two faculty members Ms. Navdeep Kaur and Ms. Ravpreet visited NIELIT. Industrial visit is considered as one of the tactical methods of teaching. The main reason behind this is, it lets the student know things practically through interaction about the working methods and employment practices. Moreover, it gives exposure from an academic point of view. The main aim of this industrial visit was to provide an exposure to the students about the practical working environment as it provides students a good opportunity to gain full awareness about industrial practices.
CSE Department organized an Industrial visit to National Institute of Electronics and Information technology
A team of 52 students of B.Tech 2nd year Computer Science Engineering visited National Institute of Electronics and Information technology(NIELIT), C-134, Phase-8, Industrial Area, Mohali on 21stAugust2018. The visit was organized by Computer Science Department of Chandigarh Engineering College which was accompanied by two faculty members of the department Dr.Shubpreet Kaur and Ms Priyanka. The objective of this visit was to provide an exposure to students about practical working environment and to provide them an insight regarding internal working of companies. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a practical perspective on the world of work.
CSE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZED EXPERT SESSION ON “RASPBERRY PI
An Expert session on Raspberry PI was organized by CSE Department on 25th July 2018 for 3rd Year B.Tech CSE students and few M.Tech students. The objective of this expert session was to introduce students to a new topic Raspberry Pi, its components and its usage in day to day applications and appliances.T he session was conducted in four batches and the duration of each session was of one hour.
The Session started with an introduction by Mr Rishi Kohli, Director (TIMTS, Mohali) and Rashi Rawat, Center Head (TIMTS Mohali) wherein they gave a brief introduction about themselves, the institute, their purpose of coming to CGC, the trending technologies, and most importantly they had a small talk on the topic “Raspberry Pi “with the students. The seminar was further continued by our Sr Technical Trainer Mr. Vimal Mishra who has a good industrial exposure in this field.
He started the seminar by showing an AVI related to the topic. He further explained that Raspberry Pi is a single board credit/debit card size microcomputer which can be used at places where we desire to use a computer with a low processing speed. He explained the different components of the Raspberry Pi one by one and told the students how its components are similar to the components of a computer. The students were also explained that how Raspberry Pi is used with IOT.
The students were given examples of different projects where Raspberry Pi is being used. The detailed examples included Smart Mirror, CCTV, Media Center, Office etc. The students were shown a Raspberry Pi so that they could relate to the topics that were taught to them. In the end, the students were shown a small demo on Raspberry Pi.
CSE Department organized Expert session on 'IOT' Internet of Things and Robotics
CSE Department of Chandigarh Engineering College organized an Expert session on ‘IOT’ Internet of Things in association with Times Institute of Management & Technical Studies, Mohali on 24th July 2018 for CSE 5th semester students. The basic idea of the session was to introduce the students to IOT and to tell them how it is going to become a part of our day to day life in coming years. The session was conducted in 3 batches and the duration for each batch was 1 hour. The session for the first batch started at 10 am in the morning and lasted till 11:10am. The session for the second batch started at 11:15am in the morning and lasted till 12:00pm. For third batch it started at 12:05pm in the afternoon, and lasted till 1:05pm.
The Session was initiated by Mr Rishi Kohli, Director (TIMTS,Mohali) and Rashi Rawat, Center Head (TIMTS Mohali) wherein they gave a brief introduction about themselves, the Institute, their purpose of coming to CGC , the trending technologies, the advantages of learning new technologies. They also explained that how these technologies are going to make the students more employable in future .The session began by showing an AVI to the students that how IOT will be able to automate all the activities in our day to day life.
The session was taken further forward by our Sr. Technical Trainer Mr Vimal Mishra, who hails from Kanpur UP. He is M tech in Electronics Engineering. He had also done a Post Graduate Diploma in IOT from C-DAC Pune and he has a good industrial exposure in the same field. During the session, his main idea was to introduce students not only to the basics of IOT, but also to relate it to daily life applications and its scope in future. The students were fully involved as they were asking questions about the topics that they have already studied like IP, Internet ,Sensors ,Actuators ,Cloud etc and how these topics are inter related to IOT. Students were shown videos on automation and were told how world is progressing towards automation. The trainer emphasized the importance of learning about emerging technologies like IOT and also about the upcoming jobs in automation for various branches.
The Students were also given brief information about Robotics that how companies are automating their machine and processes with the help of Robots to increase their productivity and speed of operations. A number of examples of different manufacturing industries were given and they were also told as to how robots are being used to do a particular task in manufacturing companies. The students were informed that how the branches like CSE , IT, Electronics , Mechatronics, Mechanical are going to get benefited in terms of jobs if they learn robotics because people who are skilled in fields like IOT and Robotics are surely going to be in great demands by the companies in future. In the end the students were shown a small demo on IOT.
Faculty Development Programme on AWS Educate- Teach Tomorrow's cloud Workforce Today
CSE department organized a one day Faculty Development Programme on ‘AWS Educate- Teach Tomorrow’s cloud Workforce Today’ on 7th May, 2018. Mr. Sam Harris and Mr. Amit Nevetia were the guests from Amazon as the Amazon has its collaboration with cloud services. Mr. Sam is working on this platform for the last 5 years. He guided the faculty regarding AWS educate on various parameters like ‘How to access, what all to access in 28 areas from 4 main modules’.
Er. AC Sharma and Dr. JS Khattra, the Principals of Chandigarh Engineering College & College of Engineering and Dr. Amit Verma , Head of CSE Department presented the guests with a token of honour. The session (from 2 pm to 5pm) was conducted at the IBM lab in WILSON block.
Industrial Visit to Pi-Soft Informatics Private Limited, Mohali
Computer Science Department organized an industrial visit to Pi-Soft Informatics Private Limited, Mohali on 8th February 2018 for CSE 4th & 6th semester students. The purpose of industrial visits was to get the basic knowledge about working of the industry, and to gain an in depth knowledge so as to modify the skills and abilities accordingly. These industrial visits help the students widen the horizons of learning. The visit also provides first-hand knowledge about the organizational structures and modes of operation in different industries.
Industrial Visit to Neonex Technology
Computer Science Department organized an industrial visit to Neonex Technology Mohali Centre for CSE 4th & 6th semester students on 7th February 2018. The objective of the visit was to provide students an opportunity to gain full awareness about industrial practices. The department believes that such visits give more practical exposure to the students and also helps to bridge the gap between classroom and the real work environment. Industrial visits lay emphasis on correlating theory with practice. The visits to these prominent industries gave the students an opportunity to observe the manufacturing processes and interact with the industry experts for getting real life application oriented projects.
Industrial Visit to CS Soft Solutions
An industrial visit to CS Soft Solutions, Mohali was organized for CSE 4th & 6th semester students on 6th February 2018 by Computer Science Department. The purpose of the visit was to provide an exposure to the students about practical working environment and to provide students an insight regarding internal working of companies. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a practical insight and experiential learning.
One Day Workshop on Cloud Computing and Web Services
The department of Computer Science & Engineering organized one day workshop on Cloud computing and web services on 05-01-2018. Prof. Iqbaldeep Kaur, an Associate Professor, CSE department administered the hands-on practical workshop on the basics of cloud computing and demonstrated the use of cloud web services by launching a server on cloud. The workshop had outline of various topics as Introduction to cloud computing and web services Cloud Deployment Models, Cloud Service models, Acquaintance with leading Cloud providers and their compute, storage services Project tasks on instance creation, auto-scaling and load balancing on cloud. The participants of the workshop included the class representative students of all the classes under CSE department. The workshop concluded with the demonstration of a server instance launch with details of configurations and the scope of Cloud computing in the paradigm of Computer Science and IT. The students were given project assignment tasks for further exploration of the cloud services.
Faculty Development Program on Cognitive Analytics
Computer Science Department organized three days Faculty Development Program on Cognitive Analytics in November 2017. The Program included discussion on IBM Watson tool, concepts related to cognitive and concepts of Watson Analytics. The FDP also included hands on experience on IBM Watson by uploading data, asking questions and discovering insights and also creating dashboard on IBM Watson. A test was also conducted in the first half based on the concepts covered on day 1. Second day of FDP included essentials of Hadoop & Big Data using IBM Info sphere big insights in which the topics covered were Hadoop Commands, Map Reduce: Word count Problem, Name Node & Data Nodes, Difference between Job Tracker and Task Tracker and Compression techniques. On the third day of FDP there was an evaluation on the topics covered on Day 2. Practical work on HIVE was also done on the same day.
