IT Department organized Expert Lecture on 'Concepts of Big data and Cloud Computing'
IT department organized an expert lecture on “Concepts of Big data and Cloud Computing “on Tuesday 21st August, 2018 from 10.00 A.M to 1.30 P.M. The expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Kanwalvir Singh Dhindsa, Professor Department of CSE, BBSB Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib. On behalf of IT Deptt. Dr. Bikram Pal Kaur welcomed the distinguished expert and introduced him to august audience. Further, she explained the need of this lecture and its correlation with real time scenario and research.
The aim of this lecture was to make students and faculty aware of the need and relevance of the subjects “Concepts of Big data and Cloud Computing ” which they are either studying or teaching/using in the research. The entire lecture was divided into two parts, one and half hour of duration for each. In first half, the expert delivered his keynote lecture on cloud computing. In the second half, the expert explained the Concepts of Big data and its practical usage. The expert started his lecture by explaining the need of analysis of Big data.
Hence the expert elaborated in detail about the essence of learning the Big Data and Cloud Computing. He told that Big Data is an umbrella term which encompasses all sorts of data which exists today. From hospital records and digital data to the overwhelming amount of government paperwork which is archived. These high volumes of data present a challenge to the cloud environment. How to manage and secure the essence of this data rather than just stacking it? Gradually he moved on explaining that how cloud computing and big data is an ideal combination. Together, they provide a solution which is both scalable and accommodating for big data and business analytics. The analytics advantage is going to be a huge benefit in today’s world. He explained well that how in the years to come these technologies will be one of the most widely used in the market and are going to dominate the entire E-COM and other sectors.
This Lecture was highly beneficial to the students for understanding the subject of Cyber Law, Information Security and Cloud Computing from the curriculum and placement point of view. The strength of the students and faculty for the expert lecture was 135. Mr. Amitab Sharma and Dr. Parminder Singh were the faculty coordinators of this event. Dr. Shashi Bhushan HOD(IT) gave the vote of thanks to the guest speaker.
Tech-Connect Club organized a Session on Developments and latest inventions in the field of Machine Learning
Department of Information Technology, under the guidance of Head of Department Dr. Shashi Bhushan and faculty members Ms. Shanky Goyal and Ms. Pamela Grover along with the students organized the Second Session of the TECH-CONNECT club on 7/8/2018.
The Session was about the “Developments and the latest inventions in the field of Machine Learning.” It dealt with long term scenarios and Virtual Assistant solutions to self-driving cars and robots that can perform the same tasks as humans like Siri and Cortana.The Session was delivered by Mr. Pukhraj, a 5th Semester student of Department of Information Technology.
There were students of all the Departments and all the semesters of entire Chandigarh Engineering College who attended the session. This session was about basic algorithms to train a machine to complete the tasks and classify like humans. Students were told that the difference between present scenario and earlier time when the models were first invented is that the more information is now fed into the algorithms and similarly more accurate they have become. Machine learning has made dramatic improvements in the past few years, but we are still very far from reaching human performance.
Tech-Connect Club organized a Session on Development & Inventions in the field of Robotics
Department of Information Technology, under the guidance of Head of Department Dr. Sashi Bhushan and faculty members Ms. Shanky Goyal and Ms. Pamela Grover along with the students organized the first Session of the TECH-CONNECT club on 3rd August 2018 at seminar Hall, Block-3.
The Session was about the “Developments made in the field of Robotics and the latest inventions in the field of Robotics.” It dealt with long term scenarios and solution that Robotics can provide as well as other new types of AI’s and Humanoid Robot’s like Cozmo. The Session was delivered by Mr. Pulklit Dadwal, a 5th Semester student of Department of Information Technology.
There were students of all the Departments and all the semesters of entire Chandigarh Engineering College. The response to the first call was overwhelming. This provided a great boost to the students of club.
CGC Girls Prove their Mettle at Youth Leadership Training Camp
IKGPTU organized an eight day camp at Mcloedganj in Himachal Pradesh with an aim to bring the youth together from its various affiliated colleges. Eleven girls from CEC along with Faculty coordinator Ms Nisha Kumari, Assistant Professor in the department of Applied Sciences participated in the camp. The camp provided an opportunity to interact, inculcate spirit of team work, problem solving and life skills besides recognizing their own leadership potential.
A number of fun filled activities which kept the students engaged throughout the period of camp included cultural program, singing, dancing, poetry, acting, anchoring and trekking etc.
3 girl students of CGC namely Muskan Chawla and Gitanshi Bhutani of CEC and Hemlata of CGC-COE dominated the camp events and were adjudged as the best campers and were rewarded with T-Shirts, appreciation letters and certificates. The certificates were also awarded to all the participants.
Dr.Parminder Singh of IT Department passed CCNA-CYBEROPS COURSE
For the first time in India, the training of Cyber-OPS courses have been given by CISCO to the selected faculty members from India. A total of 62 different CISCO Academies filled the form for admission to this Cyberops course and 104 faculty members were nominated. It was in line with the company’s eligibility where 50 seats had to be allocated for this course. The allocation of the seat was based on the faculty’s abilities and experience. This training course was held in University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun.
Dr.Parminder Singh, Associate Professor, Department of IT has passed this course and now the students will be able to gain the advantage of this course in the college. It is a matter of pride for the Department of Information Technology. In this course, important simulators have been used to test the case study of attacks. This course will now be taught with CYBEROPS and Security Onion Operating System which identifies different attack signatures.
NITTTR Sponsored ICT based STC on 'Next Generation Wireless Networks'
Department of IT organized NITTTR sponsored ICT based STC on “Next Generation Wireless Networks” in the Engineering Block-3 from 16/7/2018to 20/7/2018. The coordinators of this STC programme were Dr.Shashi Bhushan, Professor and Head and Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor, Department of IT, CEC Landran. This course was very beneficial for faculty of IT/CSE/ECE departments. About 50 participants from various departments of the college participated in the course.
The morning session on 16th July 2018 was taken by Dr.Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE, NITTTR Chandigarh. Next day, Er.S.K Chopra, Director, Term Cell, BSNL, Punjab took a session on 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G Technologies. Other sessions were also very informative which were conducted by renowned personalities that came from different locations like IIT Ropar, CSIO,Chandigarh and IGDTUW Delhi.
The feedback and Valedictory Session on 20/7/2018 was taken by Dr. C Rama Krishna, Professor, Dept. of CSE, NITTTR Chandigarh. The complete course Feedback and attendance was collected from all the participating colleges by the Course Coordinator of NITTTR Chandigarh.
Chair Session In IEEE Conference
Dr.Parminder Singh, Associate Professor, Department of IT, Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran was invited for chairing the special session on “Emerging Trends in Computer Science and Information Technology ”in INDIACOM 2018, the 5th IEEE International Conference on “Computing for Sustainable Global Development” held on 16th March 2018 at BVICAM, New Delhi. The Special Session spans the entire spectrum of computer science and information technology ranging from foundational topics in the theory of computing to information and communication science and technology and a broad variety of interdisciplinary application fields.
The aim of the conference was to bring together eminent academicians, Scientists, Engineers, Researchers , technocrats, government representatives, social visionaries and experts from all strata of society of the world to deliberate on various issues related to Global Computing sustainability, generate new knowledge and to foster collaborations for future research. The three day conference from 14thMarch to 16th March 2018 included keynote speakers, paper presentations and posters. A total of about 450 delegates from Australia, China, Japan, Malaysia, UK, USA, Taiwan, Canada and India attended the conference.
Principal’s Meet and Inspire Partnership Level Awards’ 18
Infosys organized Principals’ Meet’18 for all the Principals and SPoCs of Campus Connect Partnering Colleges on 16th March 2018 at Infosys, Chandigarh. The Program commenced at 9.30 am, with a Welcome address by Ms. Kamaljeet Kaur (Lead – ETA) .This year’s theme for the Principal’s meet was “Blended Learning”,

Mr. Sundar KS, Associate Vice President -ETA and Head Campus Connect, Infosys Ltd. Mysore shared overall campus program status and IT landscape through video conferencing.
Through his speech, he discussed regarding various key topics such as the learning process in India, Power of teachers in today’s educational environment, changing scenarios in IT industry and need for automation/innovation. He also emphasized that students should become a solution provider along with problem finder.
Mr. Sundar KS session was followed by Ms. Shaan Vats, Lead, Talent Acquisition. She briefed on the entry level requirement process. She discussed basic communication skills requirements along with analytical and reasoning skills for IT Industry. She shared her thoughts on the topic “Need for self-learning”. It was also mentioned that that the Advanced Partner Institutions of Infosys Campus Connect and the concerned students undergoing Foundation Program Roll-out will be given significant preference during the entry level recruitment.
The next session was addressed by Ms. Manisha – Lead Principal – ETA. She shared her thoughts and knowledge on Microservices – New way of building applications which are currently utilized by companies such as Amazon, Uber, and Ola.
The program was followed by lunch at the food court.
The agenda of post lunch session was “Design thinking workshop”. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Manas Tyagi and Akshat Golas from learning and development team. The objective of this workshop was to make the participants understand the importance to empathize and active listening. Some brainstorming activities were also conducted during the session.
The culmination of the Brainstorming Session was followed by the felicitation and award distribution ceremony. The colleges which had rolled out the Foundation Program exceedingly well were applauded and felicitated. Efforts and Achievements of performing colleges were recognized by awarding certificates.
“Chandigarh Engineering College, Landran” has been recognized as Advanced Partner Institute in Infosys Campus Connect Program during the period January 2017 to December 2017. Two faculty members (Ms. Urmila Sharma & Ms. Heena Wadhwa) have been recognized as Gold & Bronze partner faculty under the Inspire-The Campus Connect Faculty Partnership model.

Expert Lecture on “Exploring Cloud Computing-Models, Challenges and Future”
Department of IT conducted an Expert lecture on “Exploring Cloud Computing-Models, Challenges and Future” on Thursday 08.03.2018. Expert lecture was organized for B-Tech IT 6th semester students and faculty. The lecture was conducted by Mrs. Amanpreet Kaur (Assistant professor IT department). The objective of the lecture was to explore the content of cloud computing, to discuss about the companies competing in Cloud Computing and to know its usage in the coming years.
Industrial Visit to Infosys
Department of INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, CEC Landran organised an industrial visit to Infosys Ltd., Chandigarh for 4th and 6th Semester students on 27th and 28th Feb, 2018 with an aim to give the feel of professional environment of software industry. Around 52 students of 6th Semester and 72 students of 4th Semester, along with some faculty members visited Infosys, Chandigarh Centre. Ms. Kanika from Education & Research Department addressed the students on the topic “Cloud Computing and Virtualization”. She explained the concepts by sharing examples pertaining to the current scenario. The students also participated in the discussion with full enthusiasm with Mr Shanky(Resource Person at Infosys). After the session, students took a tour with Mr. Mahender(Resource Person at Infosys) of the Infosys Campus to see the working arena, facilities like gymnasium, pharmacy, shopping complex, library, food court etc. The students visit to Infosys motivated them to be aware of latest technologies and ongoing industry trends. Mr. Naman(A Developer at Infosys) emphasized that Software Testing has emerged as one of the key areas where students can build their career in industry. He also discussed regarding current IT trends, how to get placement, mantras for success and answered number of queries posed by the students.
